Together, over 16,000 people have signed the petition calling on Chinese authorities to free Zhan immediately and unconditionally. Your voice can make a difference. Let’s make sure Chinese authorities hear our calls to release Zhan immediately.

Zhang Zhan is suffering at the hands of the Chinese government’s zero-tolerance approach to criticism and opposing views. She has been imprisoned solely for peacefully exercising her right to freedom of expression. There is an alarming pattern of deaths of imprisoned Chinese activists, either in detention or after being belatedly released on medical parole. We must do everything we can to ensure Zhan is returned home to her family safely.

Zhan’s situation is more critical than ever. She has been on hunger strike in protest of her incarceration and is at risk of dying if she is not urgently released to receive medical treatment. Her family say they do not expect her to live through the winter if she is not released on medical grounds.

Send your tweet to protect freedom of expression and call on the Chinese Embassy to demand Zhan’s release.
