What was the “Tampa affair” and why does it matter?

The 433 rescued asylum seekers onboard the Norwegian cargo ship MV Tampa crowded together in between shipping containers awaiting asylum.

Two decades on, the Tampa Affair has changed Australian refugees policy forever with one of the most aggressive responses in the world.
