Your gift helped pressure the authorities to release Behrouz. Since his release, Behrouz is now living and enjoying his freedom in New Zealand.

Thanks to you, Dr Scott Warren was acquitted of charges of “harboring” migrants. Warren is both a geography professor and an activist and volunteer for No More Deaths — an NGO that leaves emergency supplies for migrants crossing the US-Mexico border.

Thanks to you, Yasaman Aryani’s prison sentence has been reduced to 5 years and 6 months. Yasaman, a 24-year-old activist in Iran, was originally sentenced to 16 years in prison for campaigning against forced veiling. We will continue to monitor Yasaman’s case and campaign for freedom for all women’s rights activists.

Thanks to you, freedom of the press is being protected. Niger’s authorities released journalist Mamane Kaka, after he was unfairly detained for three weeks in a prison in Niger for posting about a suspected case of COVID-19 on social media.

Thanks to you, Guligeina Tashimaimaiti has been released from a “transformation through education” centre in China. Following her release in early May 2020, she spoke with her family in a video call — the first contact they’ve had since 2017. Guligeina is currently teaching English in the community in Xinjiang.
