If you’re an Indigenous child, you’re 24 times more likely to be imprisoned than your non-Indigenous classmates. Amnesty’s ‘Community is Everything’ campaign aims to end this inequality by calling on the government to #RaiseTheAge and support Indigenous-led solutions.
We’re for all people in Australia
Amnesty works closely with Indigenous communities and people seeking asylum to fight discrimination, unfair detention and to demand safety and a fair justice system for all. We also have a very active women’s and LGBTQIA+ activist network campaigning on important gender and sexuality issues.
We put pressure on the Australian government to adopt laws that respect the human rights of all our citizens and to meet our international human rights obligations.
Refugee Rights
Amnesty works tirelessly to support refugees and asylum seekers, including campaigning for the Australian Government to end offshore detention and implement solutions that help more people find a safe place to live.
LGBTQIA+ Rights
All over the world, people face inequality, discrimination and violence just because of who they love, how they dress and how they identify themselves.
Climate Justice
The climate emergency is a human rights crisis. We are working towards a just and sustainable future where there is climate justice for the communities who are most disproportionately impacted by climate change, including the First Nations people and our Pacific neighbours.
Anti-Racism
No one is born racist. We don’t enter the world with inbuilt prejudices. Rather they are something we learn from the society in which we live. It’s time to end racism in Australia in all its forms.
Women's safety
For many years women and girls have fought for their human rights. In Australia and around the world, women and girls continue to face violence and discrimination.
How we protect human rights
Rights belong to every one of us – but are abused or denied every single day. When this happens, we search out the facts, expose what’s happening and rally people together to pressure governments and those in power to respect human rights.
